Safety Information

Read all instructions before use. Intended for professional use by trained personnel.

  1. Contraindications: Do not use on an arm with an intravenous line or arterial shunt.
  2. Patient Preparation: Patient should be seated, relaxed, with feet flat, back supported, and arm supported at heart level for 5 minutes prior.
  3. Cuff Application: Apply cuff correctly on bare upper arm. Incorrect placement causes inaccurate readings.
  4. Power: Use only the provided AC adapter. Do not use if cord or cuff is damaged.

WARNING! This device is a diagnostic aid. Diagnosis and treatment decisions must be made by a qualified healthcare professional.

Device Components

Identify all parts before setup.

  1. Main Unit: Housing the display, controls, and internal pump.
  2. Central BP Cuff: Specialized cuff with high-fidelity sensor for central pressure waveform analysis.
  3. Air Hose: Connects the cuff to the main unit.
  4. AC Power Adapter: Plugs into main unit and wall outlet.
  5. USB Cable: For connecting to a computer (optional, for software).

CAUTION! Do not kink or puncture the air hose. Store cuff loosely coiled.

Specifications

Initial Setup & Installation

1. Place the main unit on a stable, flat surface near a power outlet.
2. Connect the air hose from the cuff to the port on the side of the main unit.
3. Plug the AC power adapter into the unit and then into the wall outlet. The battery will charge.
4. Power on the device using the power button. Follow the on-screen language and time/date setup prompts.
5. Install the WatchBP Office software on your computer (from provided CD or website) if data management is required.

Tip: Perform a quick test measurement without a patient to ensure air system is sealed and functional.

Taking a Measurement

For accurate Central BP readings, protocol is critical.

  1. Prepare Patient: Seat patient quietly for 5 minutes. Arm should be bare and supported.
  2. Apply Cuff: Place cuff on left upper arm (or right if specified). The artery marker (Δ) must align over the brachial artery. Wrap snugly.
  3. Start Measurement: On the main screen, press "New Patient" or select existing ID. Press "Start". The cuff will inflate automatically.
  4. During Measurement: Patient must remain still and silent. Do not touch the cuff or hose.
  5. Results: Systolic, Diastolic, Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP), Pulse Rate, and Central Systolic Pressure will display. IHD or motion icons will appear if detected.
  6. Save/Print: Save to the patient's memory. Connect to a printer via software for a report.

WARNING! Do not initiate a measurement if the cuff is not properly applied.

Understanding Results & Central BP

Brachial vs. Central Pressure: Traditional monitors measure pressure in the arm (brachial). Central pressure is estimated at the aorta, which may be a better predictor of cardiovascular risk as it accounts for arterial waveform changes (like pulse pressure amplification).
Reading the Display: Values shown include Brachial SYS/DIA and the calculated Central SYS. The waveform may also be displayed. An elevated Central SYS compared to Brachial SYS has specific clinical implications.
Irregular Heartbeat Symbol: If this icon appears, the reading may be less reliable due to arrhythmia. Consider repeating the measurement.
Refer to clinical guidelines and software analysis for interpretation of central pressure values.

Data Management & Software

The WatchBP Office software enables advanced management.

  1. Transfer Data: Connect the device to your PC via USB. Open the software and follow sync instructions.
  2. Patient Management: Create patient profiles, view trends, generate graphs (Central vs. Brachial pressure over time).
  3. Reporting: Generate detailed clinical reports for patient files or referrals.
  4. Export: Data can be exported to CSV or PDF formats.

Note: Software may require registration and updates from the Microlife website.

Care, Cleaning & Maintenance

Daily: Wipe the main unit and cuff with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasives.
Cuff Care: Inspect cuff for tears or leaks. Clean with mild soap and water if soiled; ensure it is completely dry before use.
Storage: Disconnect the hose, loosely coil it and the cuff. Store in a cool, dry place.
Battery: For prolonged storage, charge the battery fully every 6 months.
Calibration: The device should be checked for accuracy annually by an authorized service center.

CAUTION! Never immerse the main unit, hose, or cuff connector in water. Do not autoclave.

Regulatory & Compliance

This device complies with the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR) 2017/745, FDA 510(k) clearance (check specific model), and other applicable standards for safety and performance (e.g., IEC 60601-1).
CE Marked: Indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for the EEA.
